Currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance at the Ohio State University, Yu Qian holds her master’s degree in Piano Performance from The Ohio State University, where she studied with Dr. Caroline Hong. She earned her bachelor’s degree from East China Normal University, where she studied under Dr. Dingyuan Zhang. Yu has presented recitals and performed in numerous major cities including Columbus, OH, Innsbruck, Austria, Shanghai, China, Taicang, China, and Maiori, Italy. She has performed in various venues such as Weigel Auditorium, Hughes Auditorium, Palazzo Mezzacapo, Taicang Theatre, Shanghai Star Theatre, Shanghai Concert Hall, New Life United Methodist Church, and Landeskonservatorium. She has participated in a variety of music festivals and competitions and has won top prizes. She has also participated in a large number of masterclasses from various world-famous pianists including, Professor Thomas Kreuzberger from Vienna Music and Performing University of the Art, Professor Boris Berman from Yale University, Professor Yoshikazu Nagai from San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Professor Ian Hobson from Florida State University, and Dr. Spooner from the University of Kansas. Yu presented two recitals in Columbus, Ohio in 2017 and 2018. Yu is a member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and The American Liszt Society. As a passionate educator, Yu has been teaching piano lessons both in China and the United States for over 8 years. Yu accepts students from beginners to pre-college level students. Yu has her own piano studio in Columbus and Westerville, Ohio since August 2018. In addition to her piano performance successes, Yu works as an organist and pianist and serves in St. Peter Lutheran Churches in Ashland, Ohio. Yu played the organ part of David Maslanka's A Child's Garde of Dreams with Ohio State University Wood Symphony in Dublin, Ohio in February 2020.
